Totally 94.8 percent of the Chinese people, including 91.8 percent of Beijing citizens and 99.5 percent of Zhangjiakou citizens, are in support of their joint bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics, according to opinion poll published on Monday in the 2022 Olympics candidature file.
From 23 to 26 January 2014, the Beijing Branch of Ipsos, a global market research company, conducted an opinion poll about the bid for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
The poll covered 32 Chinese cities including Beijing, Zhangjiakou, Tianjin and Shanghai with 2,500 samples collected from 1,000 Beijing citizens in the urban and rural areas, 200 Zhangjiakou urban citizens, and 1,300 citizens of other provincial capital cities and municipalities directly under the national government.
The participants in the poll were all local residents. Four questions were asked in the poll as the following: Do you support Beijing together with Zhangjiakou to host the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games? What do you think the biggest benefit is for China from hosting the Olympic Winter Games? Do you think Beijing together with Zhangjiakou has the capacity to host the Olympic Winter Games successfully? Are you willing to serve as a volunteer and offer help to the preparation for and staging of the Olympic Winter Games?
The opinion poll indicates that only a few citizens have concerns that hosting the Olympic Winter Games may exert more pressure on the environment and that the cost of hosting the Games may be too high.
