300 official vehicles to be auctioned before Spring Festival

According to the National Government Offices Administration, 3,184 official vehicles have been sidelined, and 300 will be auctioned off before the Spring Festival.

Three assessment agencies have been contracted to evaluate the condition of these cars and to verify their legal documentation before they are sold.

Over 3 thousand official vehicles have been taken out of service by the central government, after being deemed frivolous under new directives to streamline government spending.

The National Government Offices Administration says the money from their sale will go to the central treasury and the whole process will be closely monitored by the auditing and discipline inspection agencies and made public.

Official vehicles were targeted for reform in a set of guidelines released by the State Council in July 2014, aimed at cracking down on official extravagance and the misuse of public money.
