Three people were saved from a fishing boat that sank in the East China Sea after colliding with another vessel on Thursday night, leaving another ten people on board unaccounted for, maritime authorities in Shanghai said Friday.
The collision and subsequent sinking of the Chinese vessel occurred at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, about 140 nautical miles east of the Yangtze River estuary.
Maritime authorities in Shanghai have dispatched ships for the rescue. Rescue forces also include a Chinese military warship and two aircraft. A coast guard vessel of the Republic of Korea also participated in the search and rescue efforts.
The Shanghai maritime authority is looking into the cause of the accident.
