8 killed, 7 injured in China scaffolding collapse

A worker injured in a scaffolding collapse died in the hospital on Tuesday, bringing the death toll of the accident in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Monday to eight, authorities said.

Seven others injured were receiving treatment after the scaffolding collapsed around 2 p.m. on Monday at a student center under construction in the prefecture of Wenshan, said a spokesman with the rescue headquarters.

Rescuers pulled out 15 people, seven of whom had already died. The search finished at 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to the spokesman.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
