A ceremony to celebrate the release of a Khmer-language version of Chinese President Xi Jinping's latest book was held recently in Cambodia.

Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Cabinet Minister Sok An attended the ceremony on February 2 in addition to hundreds of Cambodian students, academics and senior officials, including Khlot Thyda, the president of the Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC) and Chinese Ambassadress Bu Jianguo.

The ceremony marking the Cambodian publication of the over 500-page book The Governance of China, by Xi, was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia and the RAC. The book - composed of 79 Xi's speeches, talks, interviews, instructions and correspondence from his two years in office - offered insights into the Chinese leader's thoughts on political issues.

"The book is a must-read, especially for those who are interested in learning more about China and its future direction," Sok An said at the ceremony.

He said that China will continue to improve and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics and promote modernization of the state's governance system and its governing capacity, so as to lay a solid foundation for the country's development in the long run.

The book has been published in nine languages: Chinese, English, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Japanese. It will be translated and published in Khmer soon with the help of the RAC.

"This book presents a comprehensive introduction to President Xi Jinping's outlook on philosophy, governance, reform, history, and the world, and to his main thoughts on and style of governance," Sok An said. "It conveys the President's strengths and vision of leadership, and presents his philosophies and policies to the world in an open and unambiguous manner."

"The conference provides not only a valuable opportunity for government officials and academics to gain knowledge on the governance of China, but also serves as a forum to exchange ideas and experiences with experienced researchers from Cambodia, China and Pakistan," Khlot Thyda said.

Bu also said the book will act as a window for international society to access to contemporary China, Xinhua reported.

About 3.17 million copies of Xi's work, including 2.95 million Chinese copies and 225,000 copies in foreign languages, have been sold worldwide, making it one of the most successful Chinese books internationally, she said.
