A man in north China's Hebei province killed himself Saturday after murdering seven family members over domestic dispute, police said Tuesday.
The suspect, Wu Shouguo, born in October 1976, was believed to have battered to death his wife, his two children and four members from his wife's family Saturday night, the public security bureau of Chengde City said in a press release.
Wu committed suicide on the same night by drinking pesticide, it said.
Police received reports of the killings on Monday afternoon and launched an immediate investigation.
The tragedy happened in Xiaonangou Village of Sangou Township in Chengde County in the suburbs of Chengde City.
Investigators said Wu had been living with his wife's parents and sister since they were married in 2000. But the big family lived in discord and disputes were frequent between Wu and his in-laws.
In a fit of rage on Feb. 14, Wu was believed to have killed six people at home: his wife, his son and daughter, aged 7 and 14 respectively, his wife's parents and the 10-year-old son of his wife's younger sister.
The sister, who was not home that night, was found dead in her factory dorm. Police said after investigation that Wu had battered her to death before going home to end his own life.
Further investigation is continuing.
