"The Man from Macao II", a family comedy starring Chow Yun-Fat, led the Chinese box office in the week ending March 1, earning about 438 million yuan (70 million U.S. dollars).
The film has pulled in more than 715 million yuan since it opened on February 19, timed for China's Spring Festival holiday, a bumper time for moviegoing.
Adventure "Wolf Totem" was a respectable No. 2 in the week, taking 29.6 million yuan, China Film News reported on Tuesday. Debuting on the same day as "The Man from Macao II", its total box office stood at about 504 million yuan on March 1.
"Wolf Totem" was closely followed by costume action movie "Dragon Blade". The film, which stars Jackie Chan, John Cusack and Adrien Brody, grossed 288 million yuan in the week. Its earnings have reached more than 641 million yuan since Feb. 19.
Domestic fantasy adventure film "Zhongkui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal", which was also released for the Spring Festival, took fourth spot in the week with 170 million yuan. It has earned more than 371 million yuan.
Rounding up the top five list was the sequel to "Where Are We Going, Dad?" a film based on a popular variety show which features celebrity dads on camping trips with their kids. It pulled in 88 million yuan in the week and its total box office stood at about 221 million yuan since Feb. 19. Enditem
