China said Wednesday that a Chinese cargo ship detained by Colombia was carrying normal military supplies exported to Cuba.
"The ship carries normal military supplies exported from China to Cuba, and no sensitive substances are involved," foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told a daily news briefing.
"The cooperation [with Cuba] does not violate Chinese laws and regulations, nor contravene the international obligations China undertakes," Hua said. "China is in communication with the Colombian side on this matter."
Assistance will be provided to Chinese citizens involved to help safeguard their rights and interests in accordance with the law, Hua added.
