The organizers of the Golden Broom Awards, the Chinese equivalent of the Golden Raspberry Awards, have released nominations for the most disappointing films of 2014.
All 10 nominees for the "most disappointing film" category grossed over 100 million yuan (15.96 million U.S. dollars) in 2014. "Tiny Times III" grossed more than 500 million yuan while "The Monkey King" raked in more than one billion yuan. But all the movies are poorly rated by moviegoers.
The founder of the awards, Cheng Qingsong, said the idea behind them is to encourage more feedback from movie fans.
All the nominees, which also include five screenwriters, five actors and five actresses, were selected through an online voting process.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Beijing on Friday night.
Unlike the "Razzies", no winners of the Golden Broom Awards have claimed the award, a broom-shaped trophy, in person in the six years of the ceremony.
"We truly hope some high-profile winners can come and claim their awards," said Cheng. "If they can bow their heads and listen more to peoples' opinions, maybe they can become the best in the next year."
