The Beijing fire department adopted the 96119 service platform and 119 smart phone app in September 2014 to allow people to report fire hazards at any time via a phone call or by uploading a photo, and since then, they have responded to more than 6,000 reports, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
The department sends experts to the scene within three days after receiving a report of a fire hazard, and in 24 hours if the hazard involves safety exits or exit passageways. The responsible party is ordered to change the problem as needed. The person who reported the hazard will receive feedback within five days and can be rewarded between 200 yuan ($32) to 5,000 yuan. In 2014, the department has given out more than 500,000 yuan in rewards for informers.
