Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Friday made a telephone call with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, which was focused on exchanging opinions on relations between their two countries and the Iran nuclear issue.
In the phone call, Wang said China-U.S. relations have maintained a momentum of stable development.
Noting that Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the United States in September at the invitation of his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama, Wang said the visit will be of great significance to bilateral relations.
The two sides should closely cooperate with each other and make careful preparation for President Xi's visit so as to make it a complete success, said Wang.
In the next stage, he said, the two countries should earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, plan and carry out high-level exchanges and exchanges at all levels, and strengthen communication and coordination over bilateral ties and major regional and international issues in a bid to instill more "positive energy" into the China-U.S. relations.
Noting that the U.S. side warmly welcomes and is looking forward to the visit, Kerry said the United States stands ready to closely cooperate with China and prepare well for it.
Kerry also updated Wang about the recent development and difficulties in Iran nuclear talks, saying the United States highly appreciated China's positive efforts in facilitating negotiation on the matter.
Now as the negotiation has entered the final phase, the United States is willing to keep close contact with China to push jointly for a final agreement, said Kerry.
Wang said that China is a responsible participant in Iran nuclear talks and has always been playing a constructive role in the process.
The Chinese foreign minister also expounded on China's suggestions on dealing with the difficulties during the talks, stressing that as now the negotiation is on the verge of a breakthrough, all parties should avoid letting irrelevant details derail the entire talks.
All parties should reaffirm their political willingness and move forward in the same direction so as to strike a comprehensive deal, said Wang.
China is ready to strengthen its communications with the United States at all levels, and run with the United States the "last mile" of the marathon of Iran nuclear talks.
