(Ecns.cn)--China Telecom Corp Ltd revealed on Tuesday that the company will launch Apple Inc's iPhone 4S on the Chinese mainland on March 9, and customers can start their online subscriptions on March 2.
China Telecom, the nation's third-largest mobile operator, expects that the launch of the iPhone 4S will help them attract more high-end user groups, but whether this move will increase the company's revenues remains to be seen, and the company will take stock of the situation next year, according to Reuters.
China Telecom's introduction of the popular device will boost subscriber numbers for its 3G network service, said Wang Ying, a telecom analyst with the Beijing-based research firm Analysys International.
"We are pleased to offer our new iPhone 4S customers using our 3G network service," revealed Yang Xiaowei, vice-general manager of China Telecom.
China Telecom has 36.3 million 3G users, compared with 51.2 million for China Mobile Ltd.
Apple is currently the No 4 smartphone vendor in China, lagging behind Nokia Oyj, Samsung Electronics Co and Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, according to the research firm Gartner Inc. By offering an iPhone compatible with China Telecom's technology it will encourage the use of the device by tens of millions of mobile subscribers.
