Westin Hotels and Resorts, a subsidiary of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, plans to open seven to eight new hotels in Asia this year to meet tourism and business travel demand. Six of the Westin hotels are scheduled to open in China by the end of this year, bringing the total to 20.
Another four hotels are scheduled to open in China by the end of 2013, according to Bloomberg.
Westin aims to expand its number of hotels in Asia by 30 percent this year to meet the growing demand in China and India, said Brian Povinelli, global brand leader for Westin Hotels and Resorts.
Povinelli said the Asia market is the company's fastest growing market.
