Customs officers on the Chinese mainland have nabbed two men from Hong Kong who had allegedly smuggled a large number of high-end mobile phones into the Chinese mainland over the past two months.

The two men, whose identities were not disclosed, were stopped by customs officers at a border checkpoint in the city of Dongguan in south China's Guangdong province Tuesday when they arrived at the city from Hong Kong by train, a customs spokesman said Thursday.

A total of 1,470 mobile phones, including Apple, Blackberry, HTC, Nokia and Samsung phones, as well 30 Sony PSP portable gaming devices, were found in their suitcases, the spokesman said.

The smuggled goods are worth about 4 million yuan ($634,920), he said.

An investigation showed that the two men had traveled to Guangzhou and Shenzhen from Hong Kong more than 100 times since March, even traveling between different ports four or five times on some days, the spokesman said.

Local authorities are continuing to investigate the case, he added.
