Chinese Internet giant Sina Corp. said Thursday that its second quarter revenues stood at 131.6 million US dollars, most of which were generated through advertising sales.
Sina's online advertising revenues rose 12 percent year on year to 103.1 million US dollars during the second quarter.
The company's microblogging service, Sina Weibo, contributed more than 10 million US dollars to the total advertising revenues.
Sina started monetizing Weibo this year by launching new display advertising units and recommending advertisements to prospective buyers based on user data and interest.
"The Weibo display advertising system has achieved encouraging results," said Sina CEO and President Cao Guowei.
He predicted that Weibo's advertising revenues will expand at a more aggressive pace during the rest of the year.
Sina Weibo had over 368 million registered users at the end of June, up 13.6 percent from three months earlier.
