China invested a total of 4.01 trillion yuan ($630.78 billion) in rural development to improve agricultural production and the living conditions of farmers and rural residents between 2006 and 2011, Xie Xuren, China's Finance Minister, said during a conference on rural reforms held from Monday to Tuesday.

The country is working to ease tax and other financial burdens of Chinese farmers, while improving social services, such as education and medical care in the countryside, Xie explained during the conference.

The government also has plans to strengthen financial services, such as micro-credit loans and insurance programs, in rural areas, said Xie.
