China Mengniu Dairy Co, the country's leading dairy firm, released a statement Sunday in response to live worm reports, claiming that worms cannot survive in the sealed package after sterilization process in ultra high temperature.
A consumer surnamed Zhang found several live worms in tetrapak-packed Mengniu milk provided by a hotel in Xiamen, South China's Fujian Province on August 28, People's Daily Online reported Saturday.
The hotel said the container that holds Mengniu milk is clean and has been sterilized.
Mengniu said the consumer asked for at least a 100,000 yuan ($15,770) compensation but was rejected by the company.
