The number of users of WeChat, a social networking application owned by Tencent Inc, has doubled in less than half a year, the firm said Monday, signaling more business opportunities related to the app.
Ma Huateng, CEO of Tencent, China's largest Internet company by revenue, announced that the total users of WeChat "have finally reached 200 million."
Ma last week told media at the China Internet Conference that WeChat had over 100 million clients by the end of March this year.
Zhang Yi, CEO of IMEDIA Research Group, said some investors are seeking opportunities to develop applications related to WeChat, considering its big user base.
WeChat, which allows its users to instantly send hold-to-talk voice messages, can connect users with other random people who are shaking their phone at the same time. The application was launched by Tencent last year.
