NDRC trims drug prices

2012-09-19 13:56 Global Times     Web Editor: Su Jie comment

The National Development and Reform Commission announced Tuesday that it would reduce the price of 95 kinds of anti-tumor and blood medicines by an average of 17 percent, according to a statement posted on the commission's website.

"Anti-tumor and blood medicines are comparatively expensive, so cutting the prices of these drugs could help effectively reduce medical costs for patients," the commission said.

The price adjustment will take effect on October 8.

Over 20 foreign pharmaceutical companies are affected in the price adjustment, including Pfizer Inc, GlaxoSmithKline, and Novartis.
