Chinese stocks closed lower at midday Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index falling 1.1 percent, or 22.71 points, to close at 2,045.12.
The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 1.43 percent, or 120.74 points, to finish at 8,311.
Electronics and coal producers led the declines. Shenzhen Sunshine Laser & Electronics Technology Co. slid 6.4 percent to close at 18.14 yuan per share, while Yanzhou Coal Mining Co., a leading coal producer, retreated 1.77 percent to finish at 17.79 yuan.
