GM names new executive for JV in China

General Motors said on Friday that it appointed Raymond Bierzynski as executive vice-president of SAIC-GM-Wuling, GM China's manufacturing joint venture with SAIC and Wuling Motors.

Bierzynski will be based at SAIC-GM-Wuling's headquarters in Liuzhou, in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, and will continue to report to Bob Socia, president, GM China, and chief country operations officer, China, India and ASEAN.

Bierzynski, 52, served as executive director of Electrification Strategy for GM China since June 1, 2011. Based in Shanghai, he was responsible for coordinating and accelerating the commercialization of electrification technologies in the world's largest vehicle market. His replacement will be announced later.

Bierzynski served in leadership roles in China as president of the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center from 2004 to 2007, and vice-president of GM Asia Pacific and GM executive director of China Engineering from 2007 to 2009.

He began his career with GM in 1978 with the Cadillac Motor Car Division in Detroit.
