Shanghai General Motors said on Monday that it sold its 1 millionth vehicle in China this year on Oct 11.

It is the third consecutive year and the earliest so far that the joint venture between US automaker General Motors and China's SAIC Group has reached the milestone figure.

As of Oct 11, Shanghai GM had sold an average of 3,511 vehicles every day in China this year, up 6.8 percent year-on-year. It sold 534,017 Buicks, 444,904 Chevrolets and 21,802 Cadillacs in China. Shanghai GM's total sales, including exports, reached the 1 million mark on Sept 27.

In 2011, it sold a record 1,200,355 vehicles in China.
