Mexico has called for discussions at the World Trade Organization on Chinese support for its textile companies, a statement said on Monday.

China's Ministry of Commerce today said it will deal with Mexico's dispute settlement over alleged subsidies in the textile and clothing sectors. MOFCOM confirmed it had received the request for dispute settlement, and says China will properly deal with the request in accordance with WTO settlement procedures.

On Monday, Mexico filed a complaint with the WTO accusing China of subsidizing Chinese clothing and textile companies by exempting them from income taxes, value-added taxes as well as municipal taxes. This is Mexico's fourth WTO complaint against China, which is a competitor in many sectors including clothing and textiles.

A brief statement from the WTO announcing the latest dispute doesn't provide any details yet about the size of the alleged Chinese support or its impact on Mexico's trade.
