China has seen growing dependence on energy imports in recent years, which may pose a threat to the nation's energy security, the State Council said in an energy policy white paper released Wednesday.
The country has seen a notable rise in reliance on imported oil, with the import ratio rising to the current 57 percent from 32 percent at the beginning of the century, according to the white paper.
China's oil transportation by sea is also facing increasing safety risks, and the price fluctuations on the international energy market pose challenges for China's domestic energy supply, given the country's insufficient energy reserves, said the white paper.
