Apple fans are queueing outside stores in South Korea and Hong Kong, which were chosen as two of the first places for the iPad Mini's release.
Some of the buyers even queued overnight. However, the device, priced above rival gadgets from Google and Amazon.com, attracted smaller crowds than at the company's previous global roll outs.
The mini is being released in dozens of countries across the world on Friday. It marks Apple's first foray into the smaller-tablet segment. Unveiled last week, it has won mostly positive reviews with much praise for its slim aluminum chassis. On the other hand, reviewers were less enamored with the screen resolution and a lofty price tag.
