The preliminary estimate of the Macao SAR's foreign exchange reserves amounted to 133.9 billion patacas (16.77 billion U.S. dollars) at the end of October 2012, according to the figures released on Thursday by the Monetary Authority of Macao.
The reserves for October increased by 0.8 percent over the previous month, the figures indicated.
Macao's foreign exchange reserves at the end of October 2012 represented 19 times the currency in circulation at the end of September.
The trade-weighted effective exchange rate index for the pataca, a gauge of the domestic currency's exchange rates against the currencies of Macao's major trading partners, fell by 0.48 points month-to-month but rose by 0.91 points year-on-year to 97.07 in October 2012.
