Soybean imports high

2012-11-30 09:56 Global Times     Web Editor: qindexing comment

More than half of the world's soybean exports will be shipped to China this year, Chen Xiwen, director of the Office of the Central Leading Group on Rural Work, remarked at an annual meeting held by Caijing magazine Thursday.

According to Chen, China imported more than 60 million tons of grain in the first 10 months of this year, and the amount of soybeans reached 48.55 million tons. The year's soybean total is expected to hit 55 million tons, which means half of the world's total soybean exports will go to China, said Chen.

Chen said homegrown grain cannot meet the demand in recent years, and last year China started importing wheat, rice and corn.
