A senior Italian official said on Friday that Italy and China have had a good cooperation in all aspects, wishing for a closer and more fruitful relationship in the future.

Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi told Xinhua in a recent interview that Italy is confident that the Chinese new leadership will further intensify the cooperation between the two countries and boost China's role on the global stage.

Terzi, after meeting Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, in Italy's capital Rome, said that the visit was another important event of the "close political contacts" between the two countries.

"We aim to continue the efforts to build increasingly close commercial and economic relations with China," Terzi stressed, adding that Italy encourage more investments from China.

Terzi pointed out that Italy and China enjoy a traditional relationship through the famous figures of Matteo Ricci and Marco Polo, vowing that Italy will continue to help strengthen the China-EU cooperation in the direction of mutual respect and benefit.

Talking about the cooperation between Italy and China on the world stage, Terzi said Italy and China have found "common visions" on important issues in major international organizations.

"The reform of the United Nations Security Council is a central issue for both the Italian and Chinese diplomacy, and both sides shared views about the fundamental UN Charter values," Terzi said.

He pointed out that"the two countries have been collaborating for years and very effectively in recent times" to ensure that the reform should proceed in the principles of openness, inclusiveness and transparency.

"We hope for an increasing interaction between Italy and China, and especially between China and the European Union," he said.
