Airlines set to cut fuel surcharges

2012-12-05 09:37 Global Times     Web Editor: qindexing comment

The fuel surcharge fees for domestic flights will be lowered by 10 yuan ($1.60) starting Wednesday, online flight ticket seller Ctrip said in a press release sent to the Global Times.

After the price cut, fuel surcharges for domestic flights of less than 800 kilometers will be 70 yuan, with 130 yuan charged for longer flights, instead of the previous 80 yuan and 140 yuan, respectively.

The current pricing scheme of fuel surcharges allows domestic airlines to adjust the fuel surcharges if international jet fuel prices change by more than 250 yuan in one month.

Jet fuel prices dropped by around 329 yuan month-on-month to 7,473 yuan per ton in November, according to data from energy information provider JYD Commodities Hub.

The fuel surcharge adjustments followed the decision by the National Development and Reform Commission to cut oil prices last month.

Given the decline in oil prices, the taxi fuel surcharge in Beijing will also be reduced to 2 yuan starting Wednesday, a reduction of 1 yuan, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform.
