China Mobile Ltd, the nation's biggest telecom carrier, announced on Dec 8 that the company has opened the central and western regions' first TD-LTE fourth-generation (4G) trial network.
The TD-LTE trial network is based in Sichuan. During the opening ceremony, China Mobile had used a 4G mobile phone, developed by Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, to make the first high-definition video call via the network.
Sichuan has been the first province in China's central and west regions to run a 4G trial network. Previously, China Mobile usually conducted 4G trails work in southeastern coastal provinces.
At present, 11 telecom operators, including Japan's Softbank and India's Bharti, deployed 12 TD-LTE commercial networks globally. China Mobile, the major telecom operator promoting the TD-LTE technology, is conducting large-scale 4G trials in 13 Chinese cities.
