The Chengdu municipal government signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China Mobile and China UnionPay on Dec 9, in hopes of pushing forward the development of mobile e-commerce in the city.
According to the agreement, China Mobile will support Chengdu becoming a model city for mobile e-commerce. China Mobile will promote its mobile phone wallet business and deploy terminals for near field communications, a mobile payment technology, in Chengdu.
Meanwhile, China UnionPay will cooperate with China Mobile to improve mobile payment in the city.
The Chengdu municipal government aims to provide a service platform, offer policy support and optimize the business environment during the process, the agreement said.
Chengdu, capital of China's southwestern Sichuan province, was selected as a "national model city for e-commerce" in 2011. The city has attracted various e-commerce industry players, such as telecom operators, financial organizations and content providers to collectively push the e-commerce business forward.
Chengdu will host the Fortune Global Forum 2013, a conference for world leaders and business elites, on June 6-8. The city is the fourth Chinese city, following Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing, to host the Fortune Global Forum.
