Wine imports through the Dongjiang Free Trade Port Zone in Tianjian are at 1.8 million liters this year, about five times last year's volume, the port authority said at a news conference on Tuesday, according to a report in Tianjin's Daily News.
Thirty wine companies in Tianjin attended the conference and wine tasting event. Port authorities said that Dongjiang Port is on track to be the key port for wine distribution in North China.
The port's management committee, together with the customs office and the inspection and quarantine bureau, have implemented favorable policies to support trade.
Clearance procedures have been optimized with the time needed for customs clearance shortened to nine days.
An exhibition center opened at the port zone in August, and a 18,000-square-meter wine storage warehouse with constant temperature and humidity will be put into use soon, the authorities said.
A specialized wine test lab will be set up in June 2013, the report said.
