China steps up efforts to stabilize vegetable prices

Commerce Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang also commented on the recent rise in vegetable prices saying the Ministry is taking steps to increase the supply in the market in order to stabilize prices.

Shen Danyang said, "Looking at the bigger picture, vegetable supplies around China are able to meet demand and prices should be stable going forward. Certain vegetable prices could keep on rising, as did in previous years, but the upward trend is not strong. As the weather becomes warmer and larger amounts of vegetables enter the market, prices could fall in February and March. In that case, there's actually the possibility that certain places could experience some difficulty in selling their produce."
