Ctrip.com, an online travel agency, has reportedly cut as many as 500 of its ground sales staff in second- and third-tier cities, a move to optimize its sales channels given declining profits.
According to a caijing.com.cn report Friday, the layoffs are mainly of employees working at airports, high-speed railways, and bus stations in second- and third-tier cities.
In an SMS reply to the Global Times, Niu Yue, a public relations staffer at ctrip.com, said the layoff started at the end of last year, but the company has made a "proper settlement" with laid-off employees.
