Macao's resident deposits up 1.1% in Dec.

Macao's resident deposits in last December increased by 1.1 percent from the previous month to an equivalent of 366.8 billion patacas (45.85 billion U.S. dollars), Monetary Authority of Macao announced Tuesday.

Of the resident deposits, pataca deposits, HK dollars deposits increased by 0.3 percent, 2.5 percent respectively month-on-month, and other foreign currency deposits of residents decreased by 1.7 percent, according to the agent.

As for non-resident deposits, the value decreased 2.4 percent from the previous month to 128.1 billion patacas. Meanwhile, the public sector deposits with local banking sector sharply up 8.5 percent to 45.7 billion patacas.

As a result, total deposits with the banking sector rose 0.8 percent from the previous month to 540.6 billion patacas in last December, with the shares of pataca and HK dollars in total deposits standing at 20.8 percent and 46.9 percent respectively.
