Chinese experts say hacking charges illogical

US allegations of Chinese hacking have been getting wide attention from Western media, after a report by the US cyber security firm Mandiant. The Chinese government and military reject the allegations as groundless. CCTV Han Bn interviewed Chinese experts, who say that the US allegations lack logic in terms of technical practice.

Data research for cyber security, that's the job of Hu Yanping. He's the president of the Data Center of China Internet, or DCCI. It's one of the major research centers for Internet development in China.

Hu Yanping says he was surprised to see the Mandiant report on Chinese cyber attacks on the US.

Hu Yanping, President of Data Center of China Internet, said, "The US controls the whole world's Internet technology, including the root servers, switchers, operating and security technologies. China is in a highly disadvantaged, weak position."

The Mandiant Report says Chinese military is stealing US government data and corporate trade secrets. It points to IP addresses linked to China.

China's military says that in 2012 alone, foreign hackers used viruses and other malicious software to seize control of Chinese computers and websites.

China says political motives are behind the US accusations.

Yang Jiechi, Chinese Foreign Minister, said, "We oppose turning the cyber space into a new battle field, or using it as a new tool to interfere in other countries' internal affairs."

During 17 years in the cyber industry, Hu Yanping has witnessed all the rapid changes of China's Internet development.

"China's Internet development is very fast, but not strong. It has huge number of users but lacks certain security technology. Its main advantage lies in the application systems of the networks. Most Chinese Internet companies are providing application service only, but the key cyber technology is not in China." Hu said.

Internet researchers think it's illogical to believe China can attack the US in the I-T field. US accusations of Chinese cyber attacks are more like a stealth war in the media.
