Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court has accepted Shanghai Animation Film Studio's suit against Apple Inc and Apple Electronics Products Commerce (Beijing) Co over film rights infringement, news portal caijing.com.cn reported Friday.
The studio is claiming compensation of 3.3 million yuan ($530,000), according to a statement dated March 27 on the court's website.
The studio accused the companies of selling its 110 movie titles, including Black Cat Detective and Calabash Brothers, on Apple's AppStore without permission.
It also said that the download offerings had infringed the studio's right to disseminate its own copyrighted works on the Internet and caused it huge economic losses.
