Macao's resident deposits in March increased slightly by 0.1 percent from the previous month at 383 billion patacas (47.9 billion U.S. dollars), according to the figures released on Monday by the Monetary Authority of Macao.
Of the resident deposits, HKD deposits decreased 0.3 percent while pataca deposits and other foreign currency deposits grew at respective rates of one percent and 0.3 percent, the figures indicated.
As for non-resident deposits, the value dropped by 1.9 percent month-to-month to 131.3 billion patacas (16.4 billion dollars) in the period, of which public sector deposits with local banking sector increased by 2.4 percent to 53.7 billion patacas (6.7 billion dollars), according to the DSEC.
As a result, total deposits with the banking sector decreased by 0.1 percent from the previous month to 567.9 billion patacas (71 billion dollars) in March, with the shares of pataca and HKD in total deposits standing at 20.8 percent and 47 percent respectively, the DSEC also said.
