Ma Huateng, CEO of China's largest Internet company Tencent Technology Co, reiterated Tuesday at the Fifth Global Mobile Internet Conference (GMIC) in Beijing that the company's mobile messaging app WeChat will not charge users.
He said that Tencent had achieved initial results with telecom operators on their cooperation with WeChat, but he also noted that telecom carriers should shift their focus from the voice business to the traffic business.
Tencent can create huge traffic each day for the carriers, so the companies should have strong cooperative relationships, he said.
The popularity of WeChat has reduced the voice and text business of telecom firms.
