Home appliance retailer Gome and Tmall, a B2C unit of Alibaba Group, jointly unveiled their partnership on Wednesday, the latest signal of a consolidation trend between online and brick-and-mortar businesses.
Gome Electrical Appliance Group will first open five online stores on Tmall, Alibaba's online trading platform, according to Tmall's statement e-mailed to the Global Times. Then the two companies will cooperate further in several areas such as product supply chain.
Gome saw sales last year of 47.8 billion yuan, down by 20 percent from a year earlier, while Tmall's home appliance sales reached 50.2 billion yuan, a surge of 150 percent year-on-year.
