The price gap between domestic and imported sugar widened in May, data from the National Development and Reform Commission showed Wednesday.
The average cost for imported sugar was 4,351 yuan ($710) per ton in May, 1,218 yuan per ton less than sugar sold in South China's Guangdong Province. The price gap was wider than in April by 121 yuan per ton.
China produced a total of 13.06 million tons of sugar by the end of May, up 1.54 million tons year-on-year.
