China's non-resident yuan deposits reached 1.0012 trillion yuan (162 billion U.S. dollars) as of the end of the first quarter, according to data released Wednesday by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE).
Of the deposits, 493.33 billion yuan came from individuals, according to SAFE.
The data release marked the first time for SAFE to publish non-resident deposit figures. The release is part of efforts to make foreign exchange statistics more transparent.
