Macao International Airport (MIA) handled 2.3 million passengers in the second quarter of 2013, up 15 percent year-on-year, according to figures released Monday by the airport.
In the second quarter of 2013, MIA also recorded a 21-percent increase in aircraft movement compared to the same period last year.
For the whole June, the passenger volume of MIA exceeded 400, 000 and the aircraft movements exceeded 4,000, up by 12 percent and 23 percent respectively year-on-year.
To provide more holiday destination options for travelers, some airlines added schedule and charter flights during the summer. Air Macao is going to add one more frequency to three flights per week between Macao and Bangkok. Xiamen Airlines will have daily flights between Macao and Xiamen. In addition, carriers from Southeast Asia, such as Firefly from Malaysia and Lao Airlines, are planning to launch charter flight services to Macao in August.
