Police repatriate 10 for major economic crimes

Chinese police have repatriated 10 suspects who are allegedly involved in major economic crimes and have been hiding in Southeast Asia.

According to a statement released Tuesday by the Ministry of Public Security, the 10 suspects included two from northeast China's Liaoning Province who have been at large for 13 years and one from Hebei who stole 350 million yuan (57.19 million US dollars).

Among the 10, two suspects were seized in Thailand and two more in the Philippines after fleeing from Malaysia.

Crimes allegedly committed by the 10 involve a total of 500 million yuan, the ministry said.

The arrest and repatriation was carried out with the help of China's diplomatic departments and law enforcement organs of Malaysia and other countries, said the statement.

The suspects have been handed over to local police departments for and their cases are being dealt with, the ministry said.
