Chinese shares gave up their early gains and ended in negative territory on Monday.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.47 percent, or 10.26 points, to finish at 2,186.11. The Shenzhen Component Index shed 0.40 percent, or 33.79 points, to finish at 8,379.55.
Total turnover on the two bourses shrank to 200.06 billion yuan (32.61 billion U.S. dollars) from 207.2 billion yuan the previous trading day.
The aviation industry was Monday's biggest winner, with the sector's sub-index up 2.16 percent. China announced on Saturday the establishment of the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone.
Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry Co., Ltd. soared 9.64 percent to 21.60 yuan per share. Beijing-based Aerospace Hi-tech Holding Group Co., Ltd. climbed 2.76 percent to 16.40 yuan.
The media and entertainment sector led the losses, with the sector's sub-index down 1.28 percent. Huayi Brothers Media Corporation fell 2.48 percent to 28.71 yuan. Shanghai-based Bestv New Media Co., Ltd. lost 1.84 percent to 38.31 yuan.
Shares of Sinopec, China's top refiner, tumbled 3.96 percent to 4.85 yuan on Monday following Friday's deadly oil pipeline blasts in east China's Shandong Province.
