Tianjin's municipal government is mulling measures to control the total number of local automotives to ease air pollution and traffic congestion, said Yin Hailin, vice mayor of Tianjin, in a CCTV program on Saturday.
The new measures are meant to curtail the rapid growth of automotive purchases, and it is not decided yet whether the local government will issue license plates by lottery or auction.
Tianjin's move follows similar control measures taken by cities including Beijing and Shanghai where either the lottery of new car registration or auction of license plates are implemented.
