Chinese shares closed mixed on Friday, with producers of household electrical appliances being the biggest winner and the media industry losing the most ground.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went down 0.31 percent, or 6.72 points, to finish at 2,196.08.
The Shenzhen Component Index edged up 0.35 percent, or 29.17 points, to finish at 8,429.82.
Combined turnover on the two bourses decreased to 165.02 billion yuan (26.99 billion U.S. dollars) from 169.16 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
The sub-index for the household electrical appliances sector rose 1.74 percent. Guangdong Homa Appliances Co., Ltd. surged 6.76 percent to 24.78 yuan per share. Zhuhai-based Gree Electric Appliances Inc. gained 5.18 percent to end at 34.29 yuan.
The media and entertainment industry led the decline, with its sub-index down 1.1 percent. Time Publishing And Media Co., Ltd. slumped 4.5 percent to 16.76 yuan. Huayi Brothers Media Corporation lost 2.77 percent to 33.03 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, a Nasdaq-style board tracking China's growth enterprises, slid 0.09 percent to close at 1,278.14 on Friday.
