The Shanghai government plans to widen Internet bandwidth in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, set up last year to spearhead China's economic reforms.
Fixed-line Internet bandwidth will be widened to 1 gigabyte, while wireless carriers are urged to speed up preparation for the latest 4G wireless Internet services.
Public service areas will also be covered by the i-Shanghai free wireless Internet service which the city government has been promoting over the past few years as part of it's plan to build Shanghai into a "Smart City".
