China's major online retailer jd.com announced a plan to launch its telecommunication service, dubbed as "JD Mobile" in May, domestic news portal tech.sina.com reported Monday.
Users can apply for a mobile phone number operated by jd.com online, the report said.
On March 21, a call was made successfully via the service, which is still under testing.
JD is among the first few firms that got mobile virtual network operation license from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in December.
The license enables jd.com and other 10 private firms to purchase mobile telecom services from the three State-owned carriers and resell to consumers under their own brands.
