Total foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury securities rose for the seventh consecutive month in February, indicating strong international demand for American government debt, U.S. Treasury Department reported Tuesday.
Overall foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury securities reached 5.8853 trillion U.S. dollars in February, up from a revised 5.8403 trillion dollars in January.
According to the Treasury International Capital report, China, the largest foreign holder of U.S. Treasury securities, reduced its holdings by 2.7 billion dollars, from 1.2756 trillion dollars in January to 1.2729 trillion dollars in February.
Japan, the second largest foreign holder of U.S. government debt, increased its holdings from 1.2014 trillion dollars in January to 1.2105 trillion dollars in February.
